It’s most people’s aim – to eat healthily and possibly even to lose weight. Yet it seems to be almost impossible to do. Diets seem like they last forever, don’t work, are boring or don’t work fast enough to suit an important upcoming event. Try the tips below to see if some of these will help. Eating Tips

The best way to start a healthy eating plan is to simply start eating healthy. You may think that you are eating healthy by eating fast food or junk food, but these kinds of foods do not provide your body with the nutrients it needs. Instead of eating junk food or fast food, find out about healthier alternatives to these foods. It’s easy to read – even fun and definitely interesting. You can read it inside 2 hours and it WILL help you get your paper written, even if you have to pull an all-nighter! The Amazon blurb for this book mentions compare and contrast writing, it will definitely help you with that but it will also help you with other types of writing too. Another useful book on getting stuck into writing is from Peter Elbow – Writing With Power. This covers freewriting and writing out and writing back: both excellent techniques. I have read and used both books and found them extremely useful and helpful.

One technique I use a lot is to plan out my writing using a mind map. You can get a book that shows you how to create a mind map and that has pages in it where you can create all your mind maps and save them. This helps with writing and also with studying.

Volunteering is providing work to someone else without any payment (though you may get expenses).

There are many kinds of volunteering, such as driving patients to hospital appointments in your own car, visiting sick or disabled people in their own homes, helping school children improve their maths or reading, as well as helping out in charity shops or at a food bank or other charitable organisations.

Some people feel that doing charitable work is part of their own spiritual practice, while others volunteer because they have extra time on their hands or because they have successfully reached a later stage in their lives and they feel they can help someone less fortunate.

Many volunteers find that they receive much more from volunteering than they ever expected when they started out. They may find company, friendship, a sense of being needed or of doing something worthwhile and of course, it’s nice to feel you can pass on the life lessons you have learned.

Of course, there can be a downside to volunteering, as with anything in life. Your efforts may not be appreciated. Possibly the population you are trying to help does not appear to want this help. And also, many volunteer posts require vetting of applicants, especially where the job is to work with children or vulnerable adults. These checks can take time and may seem onerous but are necessary to protect clients.

An Old Welsh Story (in English)


Once upon a time an old blacksmith lived in an old forge at Craig-y-don, and he used to drink a great deal too much beer. One night he was coming home from an alehouse very tipsy, and as he got near a small stream a lot of little men suddenly sprang up from the rocks, and one of them, who seemed to be older than the rest, came up to him, and said, “If you don’t alter your ways of living you’ll die soon; but if you behave better and become a better man you’ll find it will be to your benefit,” and they all disappeared as quickly as they had come.

The old blacksmith thought a good deal about what the fairies had told him, and he left off drinking, and became a sober, steady man. One day, a few months after meeting the little people, a strange man brought a horse to be shod. Nobody knew either the horse or the man. The old blacksmith tied the horse to a hole in the lip of a cauldron (used for the purpose of cooling his hot iron) that he had built in some masonry.

When he had tied the horse up he went to shoe the off hind-leg, but directly he touched the horse the spirited animal started back with a bound, and dragged the cauldron from the masonry, and then it broke the halter and ran away out of the forge, and was never seen again: neither the horse nor its master.

When the old blacksmith came to pull down the masonry to rebuild it, he found three brass kettles full of money.
